Dr. Asma Khan
Prior to making the Tampa Bay area her home, Dr. Asma Khan trained extensively with reconstructive foot and ankle surgeons in South Florida and Baltimore, Maryland, combining limb salvage and reconstructive techniques with non-invasive, conservative measures, such as laser, stem cell biologic injections/grafts, and custom orthotics. She offers sports medicine and state of the art regenerative medicine options for active, vibrant patients who do not want to undergo the extensive down time of long recoveries. She spends time with each patient to ensure they understand the underlying injury processes, as well as the goals and expected outcomes of individualized treatment options.
Dr. Asma Khan comes to Certified Foot and Ankle with over 15 years of experience in practicing podiatric medicine and surgery. While the time has flown by at lightning speed, Dr. Khan can tell you that this is the most exciting time to be practicing medicine, because the technology afforded to patient care today is by far the best and most innovative it has ever been and gives patients more choices in treatment than ever before. Whether a patient is considering surgery or facing the potential consequences of a non-healing diabetic wound, the options that range from minimally invasive to biologic and regenerative are profound and effective.
Dr. Khan began her podiatric career in Chicago, where she grew up after immigrating to the United States from Pakistan at a young age. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Loyola University Chicago, she pursued a Master’s degree in Neurobiology at University of Illinois at Chicago, focusing on sensorimotor processing pathways in mammalian brains. Her focus transitioned to podiatry as a way to work directly with patients to improve function, and help people lead healthy lives.
She completed her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago. She then went on to complete three years of residency training at Crozer Keystone Health Systems in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Khan also completed one year of fellowship training in Limb Salvage and Reconstructive Surgery at Naples, Florida with Dr. Kevin Lam, where a focus os minimally invasive procedures provided patients with improved outcomes and fewer risks of complications.
Dr. Khan has always been very active herself, enjoying running and bicycling in her free time. Having grown up in the coffee culture of the multi-cultural and diverse neighborhoods of Chicago. She now enjoys hearing the unique stories of her patient’s backgrounds and histories. Tailoring her approach to treatment based on each patient’s unique challenges and situations to include sports medicine, regenerative medicine, and minimally invasive surgery, to name a few examples.
