Dr. Thetford is originally from West Tennessee. Before becoming a well-respected board-certified podiatrist specializing in wound care, limb salvage, and surgical treatment of the lower extremity, he received his BSN in Nursing from Union University in Jackson, TN, in 2001. He then went to Vanderbilt University, receiving his Master of Science in Nursing Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2002. Dr. Thetford then worked at Vanderbilt University in the Trauma and Burn unit, followed by Neurosurgery. He further advanced his education with a Master of Science in Biomedical Science from Barry University in 2005. His path led him to Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, where he graduated 1st in his class with various other honors in 2009.

After graduating from Barry University, he completed his residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State Department of Orthopedic Surgery/Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Detroit, Michigan, where he gained valuable hands-on experience with all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, including limb salvage, wound care, reconstructive surgery, trauma, and elective surgery. The experiences he gained at Vanderbilt and DMC have allowed him to not only treat the lower extremity but understand the multiple comorbidities involved with treating complex, high-risk patients.

Although he trained in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, he is particularly interested in wound care and diabetic limb salvage. He is also trained in the Lapiplasty procedure for bunion correction and has performed many procedures with excellent outcomes.

Before joining Certified Foot and Ankle Specialists, Dr. Thetford was part of a Limb Preservation team in North Carolina, where he worked closely with Vascular Surgery, Medicine, Infectious Disease, and Plastic Surgery. He finally obtained a job and moved back to Florida, where he and his wife dreamed of returning after graduating from podiatry school. They spent six years in the Florida Keys, where he was Chief of Surgery at Fishermen’s Community Hospital and co-chair of
the Mariners Physician Hospital Organization board.

Although Dr. Thetford enjoys surgery, he prefers to exhaust all conservative measures before surgical intervention to have the best possible outcome for the patient. Dr. Thetford enjoys spending time with his patients and getting to know them to ensure an overall positive experience for the patient and doctor relationship. He also enjoys working closely with other medical specialists to ensure he treats the whole patient rather than just the foot and ankle.

Dr. Thetford is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

In addition, Dr. Thetford and his wife Erin are excited to be a part of the Fort Myers/ Cape Coral area, where they will spend time with family, boating, fishing, and enjoying everything that beautiful SW Florida offers.
