After earning his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, he completed a rotating medical internship at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y. and at the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County in Roosevelt, N.Y. He then completed a one-year surgical residency at Northlake Community Hospital in Northlake, Illinois with rotations at Hines V.A. Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Following his residency, Dr. Brietstein moved to South Florida with his wife. He opened his own practice in Plantation and later relocated to Tamarac where he practiced for thirty-eight years.

During the early ‘90s he developed an enthusiastic interest in the new and emerging sub-specialty of wound care and became a true pioneer in his field here in South Florida. He was drawn to the field because, finally, there was a scientific and organized algorithm that recognized why certain wounds would not heal based upon their cause and the factors that needed to be corrected before healing could be achieved.

Likewise, he served as Residency Director of the Podiatry Medical & Surgical Residency program at Northwest Medical Center. He also was an adjunct professor at the Barry College of Podiatric Medicine and at the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the department of Geriatrics.

Dr. Brietstein is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Academy of Wound Management. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery, Fellow American Professional Wound Care Association, and Fellow of the American College of Certified Wound Specialists.

He is honored to have become associated with Certified Foot & Ankle Specialists, LLC and will be practicing at the Coral Springs office.

Dr. Brietstein resides in Boca Raton with his wife and continues to pursue his hobbies of saltwater fishing, horticulture, and working out.

What greater satisfaction could a podiatrist provide for his/her patients thAn the ability to provide a cure for a patient’s wound in the fastest manner and, in many cases, prevent limb loss?

He was also on staff at wound care centers at Broward Health Coral Springs and Northwest Medical Center. Consequently, he has lectured locally, nationally, and internationally at various wound care meetings and conferences.
