Dr. Kyle Kinmon, medical director at Certified Foot and Ankle Specialists, talks to a former patient about his recovery post-surgery to treat the arthritis affecting his big toe joint. After some initial hesitation to consider foot surgery, the patient ultimately trusted Dr. Kinmon to help get him back on his feet.
Vince, who was a professional ballet dancer and kick boxer for more than a decade, came to our offices with a severely damaged big toe joint. For 13 years, every step Vince took he was experiencing pain – progressing to the point where his mobility and daily activity was being impacted. After employing conservative methods to treat his arthritis, including injections, Dr. Kinmon decided he was a good candidate for surgery to alleviate the pain he was constantly feeling in his big toe. After moving forward with the procedure, known as a big toe or 1st MTPJ fusion, Vince was elated with the results after his recovery. The pain in his big toe and foot is gone and he is able to run, train for CrossFit events and power lift. He is no longer limited by the pain and is proud to show off his ballet jumps without any discomfort.
Prior to treatment, Vince could barely walk and was in severe pain. Since treatment for his foot arthritis, Vince is back to doing what he loves, pain-free!
